Driving Down the Coast

When we left Astoria, we drove south down the coast for a while and just enjoyed the scenery. We stopped at  lots of viewpoints for pictures. Here are my favorites of those!
I thought it was neat that all of the boats are basically in a row!

Dismal Nitch, Washington

We spent a little bit of time in Washington state at Dismal Nitch. This is a place where Lewis and Clark were forced to stop because of some dangerous weather. This is what Clark wrote about it, "About 3 o'clock the wind lulled and the river became calm, I had the canoes loaded in great haste and set out, from this dismal nitch where we have been confined for 6 days…"
 It's beautiful now!

Random Astoria

Just a few random pictures to wrap up Astoria!
It is a very HILLY town!!!
I love this one of Matt taking the picture of the sign!

Seaside, Oregon

Seaside is a beautiful town just a short drive away from Astoria. We enjoyed the promenade and just spending some time taking in the beauty of the Pacific Ocean!

Lightship Columbia

Outside the Columbia River Maritime Museum is the Lightship Columbia. It is open for tours and was really neat to walk through!
The Lightship Columbia!
It is actually a floating lighthouse and this one once guided ships to safety at the mouth of the Columbia River.

Aboard the Lightship, the eating area.

Next to the Lightship, there is an active Coast Guard ship.

The Columbia River Maritime Museum

We kind of breezed through The Colombia River Maritime Museum!
But, not without taking a few pictures first!
Look at him go!

That's one BIG anchor!

The Flavel House

The Flavel House is a historic 1885 Queen Anne Style Victorian Home with furnishings that show what life was like in Astoria at the turn of the century. It was the home of Captain George Flavel who was one of Astoria's most influential citizens in the late 1800s.

 It's a beautiful home!!

I loved reading about the Music Room and seeing all of the musical instruments inside.
I thought these pillows were pretty!
The children's room, filled with toys that visitors are encouraged to play with!
The Carriage House and Gardens
We LOVED this beautiful, giant tree!!!

The Trolley

After looking at the sea lions, we went on a trolley ride up and down the river.

It was a great ride with an entertaining narrator, but I only took a couple of pictures.

A random guy walking by the trolley, carrying this bird?

The river with some beautiful flowers.
