Lillian and Belton

When Grandmom and Granddad went to Hawaii a few months ago, they brought home these adorable little Hawaiian outfits for their little grandkids. Belton and Lillian were unintentionally matching on her first birthday.

Coming Home

We made it to the airport, got on the plane and heard those dreaded words from our pilot, "The bad news is, this plane is broken and we won't be flying to Dallas on it tonight". Great. 

 Luckily Belton was a fantastic little traveler playing in the airport and looking at all of the airplanes with Taylor. And luckily the next day wasn't a work day for Matt. 

Our plane was broken. The other plane we could have flown on was a different model and we didn't have a pilot who was trained to fly it.

After a long, long, LONG wait we finally got our voucher for a hotel room about 15 minutes away. Then we finally made it to the hotel, got in our room and got in a few hours of sleep before getting up early the next morning for our flight! 

I'm pretty sure Belton fell asleep with me before we even took off on this flight. He was a good boy. 

Welcome home! Back to reality!

Friday Monument Tour: Part 2

That afternoon, we went to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial. This is my favorite of all the memorials in DC! I love how it is a history lesson and a memorial all in one. 

There are four outdoor rooms- one for each of FDR’s terms. 

Many of his most powerful quotes are displayed throughout the memorial. 

I took this picture to document how our family vacations have been my entire life. Dad is always taking the pictures and consequently he’s almost never in the pictures! 

Belton enjoyed a nice snack while we were here. It was HOT too, by the way. 

Belton was interested in the dog! 

Just a short walk away from FDR’s memorial is MLK’s memorial. This is a newer one that none of us had ever been to.

Next, we headed to the Lincoln Memorial and it started pouring down rain!! Dad and Taylor went to look at it while Mom, Matt, Belton and I attempted to stay dry (and completely failed!). 

This was pretty much the end of our trip. We went to lunch and looked around a little bit at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. 

 From there, Mom and I went on a little walk to The National Gallery of Art Gift Shop and I bought this for our home as well as a couple of gifts. 

Next stop - the airport! 

Friday Monument Tour: Part 1

On Friday, we got up and went out for more of the monument tour!

First Stop: The White House!

Next: The Jefferson Memorial 

This is Dad’s favorite of the monuments. It is a very impressive one!
